In October 2018, the international and Arab media were abuzz with Donald Trump’s statements, in which he said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia possesses trillions of dollars as well as oil, and lives under American protection for which it does not pay, but it is time for it to pay for its protection, because without the United States, God knows what will happen to the Kingdom?
These statements ignited the fire of anger in the heart of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, but the flames were quickly extinguished, with a call between him and “Trump”, in which Donald confirmed his great love for the Kingdom and added a verse saying: “You may not be able to keep your planes, because Saudi Arabia will be attacked, but with us you are completely safe, but we do not get in return what we should get”, in the Arabic sense America wants “tribute” in exchange for protection.
Then, the Saudi-American relations began their journey of growth with Trump’s economic thinking – everyone knows that he is a businessman first and foremost – mutual investments, and money flowing in various forms to both sides. One of the largest Saudi investments in the United States of America is the Port Arthur refinery project, which is considered the “crown jewel” for the American oil industry, as its capacity reaches 600 thousand barrels per day, the largest in the United States, and allows Saudi Arabia to obtain a strategic location that allows it to transport its crude oil to it, refine it, and then sell it in North American markets. Not only that, the volume of trade between the two countries reached $50 billion annually according to 2022 statistics, and Saudi investments in the American markets for PIF amount to more than $20 billion, and the percentage of Saudi citizens trading in the American market also increased to a record high and reached 90 billion riyals in the third quarter of 2024.
There are opinions that see it as just cooperation between two countries, without a doubt, in which the two parties exchange common interests, so there is no objection, but there is something inside me that confirms that there is malice behind this, so what deal is this that Trump is requesting under the pretext of Saudi investment in the United States worth $500 billion, and Bin Salman pays $600 billion within a few hours, so Trump dares to request a trillion dollars, if it was gambling it would never have been this easy.
Were Trump’s words “true” that Saudi Arabia lives in luxury, security and comfort because of the United States’ immunity? Is the Kingdom playing a proxy war for the United States and the Zionist entity with American support against Sana’a? Is it, for example, the turn of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to return the favor and compensate for the loss of the United States and its economic collapse as a result of its support for Israel in the war on Gaza and the recent fires and disasters that have befallen it? Or what, gentlemen?
What does pumping Saudi investments worth $600 billion into America mean? Does this enhance the Kingdom’s influence and open up a greater scope for it to acquire investments within America itself? And with the increase in investment to a trillion dollars, the partnership will be strengthened and Saudi Arabia will have a greater influence, which will serve to diversify sources of income and strengthen its economic position globally?
I don’t think Trump is that easy, but most likely the danger is coming
Danger, this Saudi-American agreement means tightening the American security grip not only on Saudi Arabia, but on the Middle East, it is certain that America seeks this agreement and its conclusion for political, economic, military and security goals in the region, and Saudi Arabia thinks that this agreement guarantees its defense from any external threat.. But does it guarantee the Israeli threat in the long term?
And what is most certain is that Saudi Arabia does not need America, but the exact opposite, America is the one who needs it badly and does not show that because Saudi Arabia is the one who took the initiative, and this opportunity came on a golden platter to America, which shows itself to be keen on that.
Saudi Arabia, whether with good or bad intentions, is leading itself and the region into the Zionist-American trap, thinking that it is sheltering from the external threat, but it will fall into the arms of the real enemy. Nothing forces Saudi Arabia to the eternal marriage document, as the options before it are many and these agreements must be diversified and not restricted to one party that controls its ropes until the region and the Arab nation rise up from the shackles of the tight chains, and live free and master of its own decisions.
